Welcome back!
I should start by saying that this is definitely not a complete list of my winter skincare – by any means. I just wanted to share with you guys some multi functional products that you may find handy during this all of a sudden, insanely cold and snowy winter! I think I will just have to do another post including specific facial skin care products.
Let’s just jump right in with the items I have been loving from Lush.
Now, if you haven’t tried any of the sleepy products from Lush, you are missing out. The beautiful lavender colour that you see in the shower gel bottle (the body lotion is the same colour, just FYI) alludes perfectly to the dreamy lavender smell combined with notes of ylang ylang.
I bought Sleepy body lotion first, upon recommendation from a good friend and fellow mom and blogger Jenny Lake. I saw the dreamy purple colour and I was so intrigued because I love lavender and then I went to the Lush store it was all over. I originally purchased it to help me fall back asleep after waking up with my infant daughter multiple times a night when she was younger, and I actually never ended up using it for that. Instead, I chose to make it part of my daughter’s bedtime routine. I apply it to her chest every night before putting on her pyjamas. At least this way I still get to enjoy the smell!
Once I discovered I loved the body lotion, I decided to try Sleepy shower gel and was happy to find that the shower gel is actually more of a cream. I don’t know about you guys, but when I see a shower gel that looks creamy, I automatically assume it will be more hydrating and make my skin super soft. Well, this was no exception. The oat milk in the shower gel also makes it soothing for eczema which I tend to experience during the colder months. I love the way it makes my skin feel, and the scent just puts you in a wonderfully calm state before bed. FYI- for the bath lovers- it makes incredible bubbles! I use it in my daughter’s baths now too.
Now that I have expressed my love for the sleepy line, I will touch on that adorable little bumblebee you see in the photos. This little guy is also from Lush and is called a Scrubee I know that this one looks virtually untouched- and that’s because this one is. I was given this one for Christmas from my sister and her husband and I was so thankful to receive this replacement. I had purchased one for myself in the past and I kind of forgot to repurchase it. I am horrible at remembering to exfoliate in the shower- I don’t know why. Most likely because my hair tends to steal focus (my new hair routine post is coming soon- and it will be a long one!) However, with this little bumblebee, I will exfoliate much more regularly and I will definitely notice the difference in my skin. While I remember how well it removes all the dead skin, it also hydrates amazingly well with honey, coconut, and shea butter. And well, it’s so cute. What can I say, I’m a sucker for packaging and/or appearance of the product.
On the note of moisturizing, let me introduce these powerhouses that you may or may not already be familiar with.
Argan oil is no stranger to the beauty scene. However, I have never purchased Argan oil on it’s own. The last product I bought that had argan oil in it was Moroccan oil and that was for my hair. This time around, I wanted to purchase argan oil in it’s purest form so that I could use it for my skin as well as my hair. When I purchased it, I was careful to find pure argan oil and not that one has any additives in it- especially silicones. This one has been great. Not only have I used it on my face, my body, and my hair, but I have also used it as a carrier oil to mix with lavender, eucalyptus, and peppermint oils for the bottoms of our feet and our chests to help combat the illnesses that have been ongoing this fall and winter in our house. Now, a little secret for you guys. The Cetaphil moisturizing cream you see pictured mixed with 5 or 6 drops of this argan oil has been amazing for the dry skin on my hands. Dry is an understatement. Between bathing my daughter, washing my hands constantly because of my job, and doing dishes- my hands are on fire! I’m certain I am not alone on this one. I also love to use this oil all over my face before I go to bed. It absorbs really well and moisturizes wonderfully.
The Cetaphil moisturizing lotion claims to be a non greasy formula, moisturizing enough for the roughest spots like hands, feet, and elbows but also great as an overnight facial moisturizer. I won’t lie, I hesitated to put this on my face because it such a thick lotion but then when I actually tried it I was pleasantly surprised. I like to mix this with the argan oil for my face as well as my hands on the coldest nights- or even when I run out and do errands and the windchill is brutal. I used to use this cream without the oil and it worked great but the argan oil just blends perfectly with it and I like it under my makeup to give it that dewy look that the winter tries so viciously to take away from me. This cream has also worked really well to help clear up the eczema flare ups on my cheeks that the cold weather brings.
Keeping with theme of oil, the Yes to coconut oil stick is a great addition to winter skincare. I’ll be honest- typically I am not a huge fan of coconut oil. I find it just sits on top of my skin rather than absorbing and it doesn’t provide the amount of hydration that my skin needs (even in the summertime). However, I found this at Wal-Mart one day and decided to give it a shot because the formula looked much thicker than regular coconut oil. I find myself reaching for this specifically for my cuticles, or excessively dry or flaky areas that need just a little bit of extra hydration. It’s a great formula that melts into the skin just as coconut oil does but the thicker consistency makes it much more hydrating I find. I have even used this on my face when I get dry red patches- usually hormonal and just above my jawline. I also love the stick form- just so convenient to take with you in your purse even.
Last but definitely not least, another one of my winter (and all year round, really) favourites is the Mario Badescu Facial Spray. As you can see, I am getting dangerously low to the bottom of this bottle so after I have completed this post I think I need to reorder! This spray is so lovely for a couple reasons. I use it after I have cleansed my face and before my moisturizer, and because the air is currently so dry, I sometimes do another spray at the very end. I also love to use it when I am doing my makeup. I spray it all over my face once my foundation, concealer, and any powders to set my makeup have been applied. I spray a generous amount all over my face, let it dry, and then I proceed with my bronzer, blush, and highlighter. This gives my skin that radiance that I love so much. Not only do I do this for myself, and also for my clients. It gives the foundation such a healthy glow and I have yet to meet a client that didn’t love the payoff it gives.
That’s all for my winter skin go to’s! I hope you guys liked this post and please let me know what your holy grail winter skincare products are!
